The star has handed over the entirety of his £25k honor winnings to the MVT, which works to protect the Britain's small music venues.

The star was given the award on mid-October as his new release People Watching was named the top album of the last 12 months.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the crucial part local spots played in his initial steps.

"I couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These spaces are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the whole industry in the UK.

In the last year, major artists like the band Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its initiatives to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

Sam Fender also took part, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to assist thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

These funds assisted spaces that were confronting possible closure due to issues arising from water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in improving facilities and technical equipment that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The idea that money from concerts in large arenas backs the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

Fender is not the first artist to donate his honor funds to charitable organizations.

In Pulp earned the prize in the mid-90s for their record the album, frontman Jarvis Cocker stated that the group would donate their cash to the organization War Child.

In 2002, musician the artist split her award among a few charities, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I gave a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was growing up and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with a publication.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the youth organization that supported their group, in addition to other grassroots music organisations.

Also the 1994 recipients M People donated their award to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the illness.

"Receiving the award was quite enough," remarked vocalist Small. "The prize was the bonus but we could do without the extra, because we had the cake. So our victory affected the lives of others."

Last week, the MVT revealed it had protected several grassroots venues in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

The Joiners in that area and the other in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition initiative, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who acquire "shares" in the venues.
